Undergraduate Policy
PRAXIS II TEST REQUIREMENT
MSU POLICY:
*If you are currently enrolled in Intermediate Field, you must submit your PRAXIS II scores (pass or fail) to the Office of Teacher Education Admissions (Chapin 103) before student teaching or you will not be permitted to student teach.
*Be aware, you must pass the Praxis in order to complete the teacher education program at Montclair State, and be certified by the state of New Jersey.
Be sure to take the appropriate test. Info on which test is appropriate for each certification area is on the bulletin board outside Chapin 103,

How do I register to take the Praxis test?
Registration bulletins are outside Chapin 103. You can also call the Educational Testing Service at 1-800-772-9476.
MSU must receive your scores
- Without notification, you will not be able to student teach.
- If you do not pass before graduation, you will not be able to complete the teacher education program or get certified in NJ.

NEW MSU POLICY REGARDING PRAXIS II
Students seeking a Master of Arts in Teaching or Initial Instructional Teaching Certification are required to take the appropriate Praxis II Subject Assessment test, prior to being admitted into the Program. Full matriculation requires passing the Praxis.
Candidates who do not pass the Praxis, but meet all other admissions requirements, will be admitted conditionally and limited to 12 graduate credits until they submit passing scores for the appropriate Praxis II examination.
Students must pass the required Praxis II Subject Assessment test in order to BE RECOMMENDED FOR CERTIFICATION BY MSU to the state of New Jersey.

Title II Report Summary 2002-2003
As reported to the NJ Department of Education under Title II of the
Higher Education Act as the ìsummary pass rateî, 98% of students who
completed Montclair State Universityís programs for initial teacher
certification in AY 2001-2002 passed the PRAXIS test required for
licensure by the state of New Jersey. For comparison, the statewide
summary pass rate is 98%. An aggregate pass rate of 97% was calculated
for the academic content areas (math, English, biology etc.).
The percentages of students who passed the individual (ìsingleî) PRAXIS
assessments are as follows (the statewide pass rate for each is in
parentheses):

The average number of hours per week in student teaching was 35 hours.
The total number of weeks required is 15, for a total of 525 hours of
student teaching. The program is approved by the NJ Department of
Education.
