The Department of Counseling, Human Development and Educational
Leadership (CHDEL) in the College of Education and Human Services at
Montclair State University grants three different Master's of Arts
degrees and one undergraduate minor.
In counseling, the department prepares students for work with diverse populations in a variety of settings in the following areas: individual/group community counseling, addictions counseling, school guidance counseling, and student services in higher education. In addition, the department offers courses for professional development meeting the requirements for National Board Certification in Counseling and New Jersey State Professional Counselor Licensure.
In the growing area of training and development, the department offers opportunities to current and prospective professionals to gain new knowledge and skills in management education, program planning, organizational analysis, and Human Resources Development.
In educational leadership, the department provides leadership programs for individuals to develop the knowledge competencies for positions as principals, department supervisors, school business administrators, superintendents, and other personnel. This program offers courses leading to cerification in Principalship and Supervisory areas.
