New Jersey school districts are implementing anti-bullying policies and procedures, and engaging in required professional development programs that fulfill the new State mandate regarding Anti-Bullying Programs in public schools. School districts are also in the process of implementing and evaluating procedures to ensure safety for students, comply with the new law, and deal with both bullies and victims in the most effective way, for the safety and best educational practice for our students. This school-based educational program will address bullying in educational settings, and will feature presentations from Montclair State University faculty members, school administrators and government officials.
The conference includes continental breakfast and lunch, and will offer 6 Professional Development Hours approved by State of NJ DOE and/or 6 LPC Continuing Ed hours approved by NBCC.
Featured presentations will include:
Ret. Lt. Gary Moleta, Training and Development Coordinator for the New Jersey Association of School Resource Officers, speaking from the law enforcement perspective on district and school report writing, specifics of investigations, judicial counseling concerns, evidence handling, and district policies and procedures.
Dr. Gerald Vernotica, Montclair State University Associate Professor and Former Assistant Commissioner, Division of Field Services, NJDOE, will moderate a panel of current superintendents and administrators. Will moderate a panel of current superintendents and administrators.
Dr. Joseph Oluwole, Attorney and Montclair State University Professor, and Gina Grasso, Teacher, Caldwell/West Caldwell School District, on further interpretation of the Bullying Law and its implications.
Other session topics will include:
- Marginalized students: Special Education concerns
- Cyberbullying Issues
- Working with bullies and their families
- Self-esteem and empowerment for targets/victims
- The “It Gets Better” initiative and how to implement in schools
- The bullying team – Advocating for the advocates/Support and procedures
Conference Fees:
- Individuals from Montclair State University Network for Educational Renewal (MSUNER) School Districts - $90
- Individuals from non-MSUNER schools or districts - $125
- Montclair State University Students (with copy of student ID) - $60

Our fast track option allows students to earn the full master’s degree with both principal and supervisor certifications in 14 months while working full-time. Each cohort runs on a summer to summer time schedule. Classes are offered on select weekends and evenings in both online and hybrid formats. The program’s structure enables working professionals the flexibility of an intensive, yet manageable course of study in an accelerated fashion.

Spring 2012 Master's Counseling Comprehensive Exam Information

Sign-In/Registration Time: 8:25-8:40 AM (students must arrive during this window -instructions begin at approximately 8:45 AM)

ONLY students on a master's program track must take and pass Comps. Both application forms listed below must be submitted to our Department Administrator, Lucille Gesualdi, University Hall, Counseling Suite, Room 3165 by the deadline.
Students MUST also submit a check or money order for $45.00 with their application made out to "CCE" (The Center for Credentialing & Education) - Checks will not be cashed/deposited until after the administration of the exam.

Ph.D Program in Counselor Education
Montclair State University is accepting applicants for its Ph.D program in Counselor
Education for Fall 2012.
The only doctoral program in counselor education in the
New Jersey/ New York metropolitan area, the primary objective of this Ph.D
program is to prepare scholars and practitioners to become leaders in
maximizing the mental health and quality of life for individuals,
families, communities, and educational organizations.
Individuals with counselor education doctoral degrees work as academic
faculty in higher education and in administrative and managerial roles
in health care agencies, nonprofit organizations, community agencies,
and student affairs/academic affairs units in colleges and universities
as well as in businesses. In addition to consultants for agencies on
specific projects-for example, consultants to state departments of
education concerning guidance outreach to underserved populations.
The Montclair State University Ph.D
program in Counselor Education combines scholarly preparation and
advanced counseling and supervision practice in preparation to pursue
these and other career opportunities. Applications are being accepted
for Fall 2012 study. Review of completed applications, including review
for doctoral assistantships, will begin on or about November 1, 2011.
The final application deadline for Fall 2012 is February 1, 2012.
MA in Counseling Program is Accredited by CACREP
The MA in Counseling graduate
program, located in the College of Education & Human Services,
is accredited by the prestigious Council for the Accreditation of
Counseling
and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). CACREP has established rigorous
standards for the preparation of counselors, and only about 21% of
counseling
graduate degree programs in the United States are accredited by CACREP.
The vision of CACREP is to
provide leadership and to promote excellence in professional
preparation though
the accreditation of counseling and related educational programs.
As an
accrediting body, CACREP is committed to the development of standards
and
procedures that reflect the needs of a dynamic, diverse and complex
society.
CACREP is dedicated to (1) encouraging and promoting the continuing
development
and improvement of preparation programs, and (2) preparing counseling
and
related professionals to provide service consistent with the ideal of
optimal
human development.
The MA in Counseling graduate program at Montclair State University
allows its students to elect a concentration in one of four
areas: Addictions Counseling, Community Counseling, School
Counseling and Student Affairs/Counseling in Higher Education.
The department of Counseling and Educational Leadership also offers
post-baccalaureate and post-master's certification and certificate
programs in Counseling, and the PhD in Counselor Education. For
