Counseling and Educational Leadership

The Department of Counseling and Educational Leadership (CEL) in the College of Education and Human Services at Montclair State University grants two different Master's of Arts degrees and one doctoral degree, as well as several certifications and certificates. In counseling, the department prepares students for work with diverse populations in a variety of settings in the following areas: individual/group community counseling, addictions counseling, school guidance counseling, and student services in higher education. In addition, the department offers courses for professional development meeting the requirements for National Board Certification in Counseling and New Jersey State Professional Counselor Licensure. In educational leadership, the department provides leadership programs for individuals to develop the knowledge competencies for positions as principals, department supervisors, school business administrators, superintendents, and other personnel. These programs offers courses leading to certification in Principal and Supervisor areas. In the growing area of adult and organizational learning, the department offers opportunities to current and prospective professionals to gain new knowledge and skills to work in a wide variety of settings such as higher education, business and industry, and health and social service agencies by facilitating work place learning, and planning and managing educational training.
