Educational Foundations

Department Announcement NOTE: All academic departments in the College of Education and Human Services, including the Office of the Dean and the Center of Pedagogy, will be open from Monday through Thursday from 8:30am - 5:30pm for the first four weeks of each semester, and the week before registration and the first week of registration.

The Department of Educational Foundations offers foundations courses designed to prepare public and private school educators, administrators, and policymakers to meet the specialized educational demands of diverse social, political, and cultural contexts. Along with this charge to serve professional and pre-professional educators, the department seeks to develop in students from all disciplines a sophisticated understanding of the relationship between education and culture, as well as tools of inquiry and democratic interaction applicable throughout their educational experiences and in other contexts. The faculty considers mastery of critical, creative, and independent thinking, and a deep understanding of the role of educational institutions in society crucial to the success of a democratic society.
