Teacher Certification Requirements

Baccalaureate students who wish to certify in teaching must take the course Philosophical Orientation to Education (EDFD 220), so that they develop a historical and theoretical understanding of educational philosophy, and develop the ability to think for themselves in a philosophical manner about education, and to present their ideas and plans in a reasonable, clear, and meaningful manner. Graduate certification students, whether MAT, M.Ed., or post-baccalaureate students, must take the course Development of Educational Thought (EDFD 520), so that they develop an historical perspective and theoretical grasp of educational philosophy and policy, and develop the tools of philosophical analysis and reconstruction to become educational philosophers themselves.
