Overview of Programs

Initial Teacher Education Programs

Initial teacher education programs are designed for candidates who do not already hold teaching certificates in the fields for which they are seeking an initial certificate. At MSU, candidates can seek initial teaching certification through three different degree and certificate programs: bachelor's degree programs (Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science), Master of Arts in Teaching programs (MAT), and post-baccalaureate certificate programs (Post-Bac). These programs and their coordinators are housed in four different colleges: the College of Education and Human Services, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Science and Mathematics, and the /College of the Arts.

Advanced Teacher Education Programs

Advanced teacher education programs are designed for candidates who already hold teaching certificates in the field for which they are seeking an advanced degree. At MSU, candidates in the advanced teacher programs receive master's degrees (Master of Arts, Master of Science, and Master of Education). These programs and their coordinators are housed in four different colleges: the College of Education and Human Services, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Science and Mathematics, and the College of the Arts.

Programs for Other School Professionals

Programs for other school professionals are designed for candidates seeking a degree or professional certification in an educational field other than teaching. At MSU, these programs and their coordinators are housed in two different colleges: the College of Education and Human Services and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
