Current Projects of the Center for Research on Public Education
Two CRPE projects are already underway:
Implementation of New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum, 2006-2007
New Jersey is in the first stages of implementing a new school district accountability system in 2006-2007. Five areas of central office functions will be evaluated: Fiscal Management, Operations Management, Personnel, Governance, and Instruction and Program. As a part of that implementation, CRPE is overseeing the effort in 15 school districts in the state using a cadre of highly skilled professionals. Their work includes reviewing district documentation, interviewing central office personnel, visiting schools, observing classroom instruction, and interviewing community stakeholders.
Curriculum and Professional Development Audits, 2006-2007
The New Jersey Department of Education has contracted with CRPE to conduct curriculum and professional development audits in 31 school districts in the state as part of the Abbott v. Burke school funding case. CRPE is reviewing curriculum documents and materials in schools, and observing classroom instruction to determine the levels of alignment between the state Core Curriculum Content Standards, the district's curriculum, and the instruction delivered. CRPE is also reviewing professional development contracts to determine the level of alignment between professional development activities and curriculum and instruction.
